Matthew J. Hartzog

Chief of Staff

Matthew Hartzog is the Chief of Staff of the Gertrude C. Ford Foundation and has been with the foundation since 2017. With a dynamic background in nonprofit management and healthcare, Matthew serves as a vital liaison between the executive board and grant requestees. In this role, he facilitates seamless communication, ensuring that the board’s vision aligns with the needs of organizations seeking funding. Additionally, he collaborates closely with the Assistant to the President to support daily operations and maintain efficiency across all initiatives.

 

Beyond grant management, Matthew coordinates and streamlines the executive board’s calendar, meeting agendas, and overall workflow. With expertise in information technology, he also oversees all I.T. programs, ensuring that board members and staff have access to essential tools. Matthew personally designed and continues to maintain the foundation’s website and online databases, enhancing accessibility and operational effectiveness. Committed to operational excellence and organizational growth, Matthew is dedicated to advancing the foundation’s mission through strategic leadership and innovation.

In addition to his work in nonprofit administration, Matthew is a dedicated registered nurse at a pediatric Level One trauma center, bringing valuable healthcare expertise and a compassionate perspective to his work. This dual background in both patient care and operational management provides Matthew with a unique ability to navigate complex systems, foster collaboration, and drive meaningful impact.

 

Matthew graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Mississippi and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He is a native of Brandon, Mississippi and currently is a resident of Memphis, Tennessee. â€‹â€‹â€‹
